Alternative Transportation
The University of Arizona is committed to reducing campus congestion, promoting sustainability, and supporting a healthier community. Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) offers a wide range of alternative transportation options to help students, faculty, and staff commute efficiently and affordably—without relying on single-occupancy vehicles.
Ways to Get Around
Whether you prefer to bike, carpool, ride transit, or share a vehicle, we’ve made it easier than ever to get where you need to go. Explore options below:

Bicycling on Campus
From free Bike Valet and secure storage to repair stations and campus bikeshare, UofA supports cyclists at every level.

Cat Tran & Night Cat by Lyft
Cat Tran is the free campus shuttle system, designed to make getting around campus easy, safe, and accessible for all. PTS offers real-time tracking, multiple routes, and access to Park & Ride, Night Cat by Lyft, charter services, and more.

Electric Vehicles
Learn where and how to charge your electric vehicle on campus and how EV charging supports sustainability at the University of Arizona.

Carpool Parking Program
Carpooling with three or more people? Split the cost of a parking permit and enjoy added benefits through the Arizona Carpool Program.

Tucson Transit (Sun Tran & Sun Link)
University riders get unlimited access to city buses and the Sun Link streetcar at reduced rates.

Emergency Ride Home Program
PTS offers a free Emergency Ride Home Program for University of Arizona employees and students who regularly use alternative transportation (e.g., biking, walking, carpooling, or transit). This program ensures that you can still get home safely if an unexpected emergency arises.

Disability Cart
A free, door-to-door transportation service provided to University of Arizona students, faculty, staff, and participants in University programs who have a temporary or permanent impairment that limits their mobility on campus.

Electric Scooter Policy
Electric scooters are prohibited on campus unless registered for accessibility use. Unauthorized use may result in fines or impoundment.
Travel Reduction Program (TRP) Employee Survey
Each October, University of Arizona employees participate in the annual Travel Reduction Program (TRP) Employee Survey, in partnership with the Pima Association of Governments (PAG). This quick, anonymous survey supports regional transportation planning by collecting valuable data on how employees commute to and from work.
PAG is the region’s metropolitan planning organization, working to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, enhance mobility, and support national air quality standards. Under a regional ordinance, all employers with 100 or more full-time employees—like the University of Arizona—are required to participate in this initiative.
Your responses help:
- Reduce energy use and transportation costs
- Support smarter infrastructure and transit planning
- Promote alternative transportation like carpooling, biking, and public transit
- Improve access to jobs and overall quality of life in the Tucson metro area
The survey takes only a few minutes and asks about your daily commute (modes of travel, distance, travel time, and schedule). Results are used to identify carpool or transit opportunities, analyze emissions benefits, and guide roadway improvements.
Thank you for doing your part to support a more efficient and sustainable transportation future for our community.
