Parking Budget Overview
Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) operates as an auxiliary enterprise, which means we do not receive state funding to support our operations. Instead, we rely on revenue generated from users to cover the expenses of maintaining parking garages and lots, providing transit services, and supporting alternative transportation programs.
Each fiscal year, it costs approximately $20 million to provide these services to our campus community. In accordance with University policy, our rates are set to cover only the actual costs of running the department. This includes ongoing operational expenses, infrastructure improvements such as building new lots and garages, and servicing our debt obligations.

How do we spend the money we collect?
The revenue collected by Parking and Transportation Services is carefully allocated to support the core functions of our department. From maintaining parking programs and infrastructure to funding alternative transportation and meeting institutional commitments, each portion of our budget is dedicated to ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible mobility options for the University community.
Who pays for the Cat Tran transit and other free services?
The on-campus Cat Tran transit, disability cart service, CatWheels, Bike Valet, emergency ride home program, Motorist Assist Program, and other services are provided at no charge to the users of these services. In addition, to help ease the lack of parking on campus, Parking and Transportation Services subsidizes low cost Parkn’ Ride lots and U-passes.
