As a self-supporting auxiliary unit, Parking ampersanamp; Transportation Services does not receive funding from tuition, student fees, or other institutional sources to support our programs and initiatives. Parking revenues fund alternative transportation programs like the free Cat Tran campus transit, Disability Cart Service, Bike Valet, Cat Wheels Bike Share, subsidy of SunTran and SunLink passes, park and ride lots, and more. It is through the efforts of alternative transportation, that we minimize traffic congestion around campus while reducing the need to build new parking structures. In order to continue these initiatives, we must invest in the maintenance and replacement of our aging Cat Tran fleet as well as technologies that increase our efficiency and help us better serve our campus community.

In addition to funding the alternative transportation programs, parking revenues are also used to build, pay debt service, and maintain the 10 parking garages and over 130 parking lots on campus. To manage the costs of both parking garages and lots, we will continue to invest in our regular preventative maintenance program to keep equipment updated and in good working order for the benefit of our customers. This fall, main campus will have access to two additional garages, the Honors Village Parking Garage and the Health Sciences Parking Garage. While these garages help return parking lost to campus development, they also come with additional investment and capital maintenance needs. Our practice is to build large, structured parking on the perimeter of campus as part of the strategic approach to campus master planning.

This year some parking permits will increase by 5%, which equates to $1.89 increase, per pay period, in payroll deductions for garages and less for other permits.* This increase will allow us to support alternative transportation initiatives and Cat Tran fleet phased replacement, as well as continuing to provide well-designed, well-built, and well-maintained parking.

Our alternative transportation programs have helped Wildcats save thousands of dollars in transportation costs getting to and from campus and significantly reduced the need to build parking on campus.
